  • The Toyota Belta is expected to arrive in India soon.
  • The car is based on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and is a badge-engineered version of it.

In the Middle East, Toyota has introduced the Belta sedan. The vehicle is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz that is sold in India. The decision to rebadge and sell is part of a 2018 announcement by Toyota and Suzuki to collaborate on the supply of hybrid technology and other automobiles.

Toyota already offers the Glanza, which is based on the Baleno, and the Urban Cruiser, which is based on the Vitara Brezza, in India as part of the deal. The Toyota Belta sedan, which is based on the Ciaz, is the second model of its kind in the world, following the Rumion, which is based on the Ertiga.

When it comes to the Toyota Belta, the model hasn't changed much other than the Toyota badges on the outside and interior. The variant is also driven by the same 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that delivers 103bhp and 138Nm of torque under the hood.

Only a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission is available on the international spec of the Toyota Belta, while a five-speed manual transmission is likely to be available on the India-spec variant.

The Toyota Belta is expected to arrive in the country in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for further information.
