Because the top-spec Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Luxury trim requires a large number of semiconductor chips, Mahindra is launching a new trim with fewer amenities to shorten the Mahindra XUV7OO wait time.

Mahindra is set to introduce a new trim level to the Mahindra XUV7OO lineup in the near future. The new Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart, which will be roughly Rs 80,000 cheaper than the top-end XUV700 AX7 Luxury, will have a few features less than the top-end XUV700 AX7 Luxury edition.

Earlier this month, during a press conference, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, M&M's Auto and Farm Equipment Sector, stated that the company was planning to produce new Mahindra XUV700 models with fewer creature amenities to better cope with the chip shortage.

As a result, the AX7 Smart's upcoming debut is consistent with the announcement.

What’s New in the Mahindra XUV7OO AX7 Smart?

When compared to the top-spec Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Luxury trim, the XUV700 AX7 Smart trim lacks a number of amenities. This includes the ADAS suite as well as features such as hill hold assist, hill descent control, knee airbag, drive modes, electric door handles with passive keyless entry, electronic parking brake, wireless charging, telescopic steering, and the driver drowsiness detection feature.

The Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart will most likely be offered in both petrol and diesel versions, and will still come with twin 10.25-inch screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, AdrenoX connected-car tech with a two-year subscription, built-in Alexa voice assists, 360-degree camera, blind view monitoring, auto booster headlamp, 12-speaker Sony 3D sound system, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, six-way powered driver's seat, auto headlamps, and more.

ABS with EBD, six airbags, cornering lights, and ISOFIX seat mounts will all be standard on the Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart. It retains its exterior appearance, with features such as 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, smart door handles (manual), LED headlamps and taillamps, and sequential LED turn indicators.

Why Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart?

The Semiconductor chip scarcity has had a significant impact on production, pushing wait times for several popular vehicles and SUVs to nearly a year. The Mahindra XUV7OO's top-spec models include ADAS and a slew of additional electrical systems that necessitate a large number of semiconductor chips.

These top-spec Mahindra XUV7OO versions are also in strong demand, with Mahindra receiving over 70,000 bookings so far, and waiting times for these variants are reaching up to 10 months in some areas.

As a result, the Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart trim is being introduced to help alleviate demand for high-end models and assure speedier car delivery by using fewer semiconductor chips.

According to our sources, the XUV700 AX7 Smart will initially be available only to clients who have previously reserved the Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Luxury trim, and those who switch to the new cheaper variant should expect delivery 2-3 months sooner than those who choose the XUV700 AX7 Luxury trim.

What Mahindra XUV7OO Missed in the Lower Trims?

With its aggressive pricing, segment-first features, and powerful engines, the Mahindra XUV7OO has sparked interest in the compact and mid-size SUV categories. However, its variant-by-variant list of features is not without flaws.

In order to offer some of Mahindra's new technology, the mid-spec models, particularly the XUV 700 AX5, have given up significant conveniences. Here are some of the most noteworthy omissions from the Mahindra XUV700 AX5 as a premium middle variant:

Reverse Camera

A rear parking camera is a must-have feature, especially in a vehicle of size. Nonetheless, Mahindra has limited it to the top-spec XUV700 AX7 model. In the meantime, it's available on Kia Seltos and MG Hector one-up models, as well as the Hyundai Creta S mid-spec model.

Cruise Control

Adaptive cruise control is available in the top trim level of the Mahindra XUV700, however normal cruise control is not available in the lesser trims. It's a standard feature in SUVs of similar price ranges, and it's particularly beneficial for highway travel.

Its competitors sell it in lower-priced trims that are comparable to the XUV700 AX5.

Auto AC

The highest variant of the Mahindra XUV700 is the first in its segment to provide dual-zone climate control, while all other variations rely on manual air conditioning. From the mid-spec models, this feature is available on the Creta and Seltos.

Powerfold ORVMs, ESP, steering mounted controls for the driver’s display

Only the high end gets a pretty modest convenience like electrically folding exterior rearview mirrors, but those, too, auto-fold. Because electrically adjustable ORVMs are standard, they should be electrically foldable as early as the XUV700 AX3 trim or as late as the XUV700 AX5 trim.

Mahindra claims to have fitted the XUV700 with its latest electronic stability program (ESP), however, it is only available on the top trim, whereas it is standard on the Skoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.

Ventilated front seats and auto-dimming IRVM

Although the aforementioned comforts and conveniences should have been accessible on the more affordable variations, the Mahindra XUV700 is missing out on some amenities that are available on similarly priced competitors. For a premium offering, the auto-dimming inner rearview mirror is the most noticeable exclusion.

It also lacks ventilated front seats, which are offered on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq and are extremely beneficial in Indian summers. The Mahindra XUV700 isn't alone in this regard; the Tata Safari, with the exception of the recently announced Gold Edition edition, lacks ventilated front seats.

Apart from the new variant Mahindra XUV700 AX7 Smart, let's recap what other XUV7OO variants have to offer.
